As we assemble for a new Term

AT BEGINNING OF TERM

Lord, behold us with Thy blessing
Once again assembled here;
Onward be our footsteps pressing
In Thy love, and faith, and fear;
Still protect us, still protect us
By Thy presence ever near.

For Thy mercy we adore Thee,
For this rest upon our way;
Lord, again we bow before Thee,
Speed our labors day by day;
Mind and spirit, mind and spirit
With Thy choicest gifts array.

Keep the spell of home affection
Still alive in every heart;
May its power, with mild direction,
Draw our love from self apart,
Till Thy children, till Thy children
Feel that Thou their Father art.

Break temptation’s fatal power,
Shielding all with guardian care,
Safe in every careless hour,
Safe from sloth and sensual snare;
Thou, our Saviour, Thou,our Saviour
Still our failing strength repair.

The Parsons Pightle

Those who left the school and played Rugby will well remember the "Parsons Pightle" where the Old Boys played. Just up the road toward Caterham, it merged with John Fisher Old Boys Rugby club.

The Honours Boards from the back of the School Hall are to be found at the back of the Bar there.

Ed Wilson writes ...

Best Teachers _ Derek Eneas & Huw Thomas
They brought alive my love of sport, especially basketball athletics and rugby. They had great patience and ability to teach new skills.  Brilliant times.
Where are you now?
Married two great kids(adults) 35 & 33.
PE teacher and head of department for 25 years. Also partner in manufacturing business. Retired due to back operation (too much sport I think) Now fully retired only gentle golf left-yippee!
Memories of PGS
Purley gave me my career, and allowed me to make many friends in sport over the years - I'm eternally grateful. Glad I didn't work as hard as I should have - I might have had to do a really dull and boring job.
By the way Alan It's Ed not Stu in the U19 basketball photo.

Phil Bright writes in the Guest Book

Phil Bright from 1973 has written from Ontario - pics hopefully to follow.

Memories from those times  ? - "Of course DOGS is easy to remember.  I read the post from 2002 about pouring brake fluid on a car.  The car that was attacked was DOGS's Fiat, from a second foor window. In poor judgement I guess we rationalize it as payback for the canings.

Not proud of my part in how we used to abuse Nick with all kinds of pranks.

Of course the favourite memory of a teacher has to be the student French teacher.  "
